Pictures to take during your hospital stay

It seems that it is common for people to have a pic of mom holding baby in a hospital gown and baby in their bassinet but here are some pictures most people don’t think to take:

Top 10 Pics You’re Probably Forgetting

1. One last belly pic - before changing into a gown or immediately after, capturing the baby bump one last time is something you’ll be glad you did

2. Labor pic- pic of labor, these become treasures and are sometimes funny to look back on (for scheduled c-sections a pic of support person in their OR gear - ask about photos in OR as hospital policies vary from facility to facility)

3. Pic of baby with the nurses and doctors- (with their permission of course) this is one most people forget to take. You can even print a copy to give them with a little note. It’s thoughtful gestures like these that nurses remember forever

4. Baby’s first feeding- documenting baby’s first feeding is a sweet moment not often documented

5. Baby’s first bath- the sweet expressions they make when they get their hair washed for the first time are absolutely priceless

6. Cone heads and squishy cheeks- newborns after birth sometimes look like they’ve been in a fight, have cone heads or are covered in vernix (cheesy protective coating) or have a bunch of yellow dots on their nose (milia). Appearances change rapidly over the first few weeks so capturing those tiny details will help you to remember them later

7. Partner holding and caring for baby- it’s not just the birthing parent that is bonding with the new baby, capture that skin to skin and those late night swaddles these will so be precious to your child

8. Picture with special object for size comparison- babies grow so rapidly in the first year that many people take pictures monthly with a special stuffed animal or object so you can see in comparison how much baby has grown. Getting the first picture while baby is tiniest is great for comparison at monthly milestones

9. Wheeling out the door- it’s amazing how many new parents are so focused on getting baby safely home they forget to snap a pic of the overfilled cart and with baby in arms

10. Pic of baby in seat to go home - it’s amazing how quickly babies go from looking like their seat is enormous to outgrowing them. A pic of baby at their smallest in their car seat is another good comparison pic to have

Bonus: Bili lights - if baby needs treatment for jaundice this is a photo to capture as well

*If baby is in the NICU, take all of these and more. Progress pictures for NICU babies are even more important to capture.
